I am about to start a cosmetics business. The first product is lip gloss. Any tips or ideas?

It should give some actual color and taste yummy. like coffee. or strawberries.I am about to start a cosmetics business. The first product is lip gloss. Any tips or ideas?
well since its lip gloss (and i love lip gloss) i think you should have them in all types. like lip gloss in those brush bottles, tubes (the one that you squeeze), the lip glosses that you twist from the bottom, and the lip gloss you can apply with your fingers.

have them in delicious flavors. fruity is usually popular. have them in different colors that can attract buyers. you can even add glitter to some, but not too much. also have those solid colors also, and those nice clear colors. make sure the packaging is nice too. you can try to make flavors that you havent seen yet out there but are really nice and you would know girls would love it. make sure it smells good too.

have them to be long lasting. thats a good one. and make sure its not tested on animals or whatever. make it not sticky. stickiness is so annoying.

good luck!I am about to start a cosmetics business. The first product is lip gloss. Any tips or ideas?
Make sure that you have a well prepared business plan. Study your top competitors. Almost every week someone starts their own cosmetic business, but most of them fail during the first 6 months due to poor planning and lack of marketing skills. GOOD LUCK!!!
Definitely good smells/tastes. Nothing worse than a lip gloss that looks good but tastes/smells nasty. I love Burt's Bees products, because they smell/taste/feel really nice. Something like that maybe? And - skip the glitter. I'm pretty sure that fad is over. Best of luck!!! :)
i loved flavored lip gloss with just a tad bit of color. and nothing sticky...i hate when i press my lips together and it's all stringy and sticky. Good luck!!!
Make it real shiny but not sticky, flavored with something most people like, have it good that it last through the day.. That's what a lot of people want, most of us hate it when we have to keep reapplying our lip gloss, or when the lip gloss is so sticky, that if the wind blows, and our hair touches the lip gloss, it sticks to it, and when you remove your hair, you would have to touch it up again.

And here's a quick tip which you may or may not know. If you have some ideas, make them and like hand them out to may be family and friends, or random people on the street or something, and take like a poll or review to see how you could improve the product. Basically, experiment with them.

Once you get that, THEN, start marketing it. Or else, if you just start selling it based on the tips or ideas here on yahoo answers (not that I'm saying it's bad, but we wouldn't know till we really tried it), you might be able to sell much.

Oh and by the way, if you could, email me when it's done. Like the name and where I can purchase it. I would definately support you if it was good and get all my friends to buy it too! :D
Experiment/test with your products first, then you'll be better able to help your clients pick whats best for them. I always hate when I buy lipstick/lip gloss that I constantly have to reapply throughout the day. By experimenting with the products, you can help your clients determine whats best for them.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
Set up a business plan and set up some written goals.

Listen very closely to your customers and try everything that you can to make them happy and repeat customers.

Listen to Startup Nation and other resources for running a compnay.

Most important - have fun in what you are doing !!!!

If you are having fun - the money should follow!

I current own and operate four companies. One is twenty years old this year :-)
WOW!! :) thats really cool!

good luck!

um i think definitely you should have colored lip gloss. not just clear and make it really thick and juicy! i dont know if this is possible but you could experiment with lip gloss that lasts longer. i hate replaying over and over again through the day.
